This list of lodgings on Kauai is for people who wish to stay near the Hindu Monastery, whose intent is to come to worship daily and who don't want to drive a long way each time they come to the temple. Most of these places are on the East Side of Kauai in the Lihue-Wailua-Kapaa area. We no longer maintain listings for chain hotels or lodgings on the North, Lihue Side or South Shores, unless proprietors contact us directly with current information. If you want to broaden your options, simply Google "Kauai travel hotels rooms cottages condominums."

The list is divided into 5 sections: within walking distance of the monastery, within 5 minutes drive, within 15 minutes drive, within 25 minutes drive. Most locations in the first section are within walking distance (two to four city blocks walk), or a 5 minute, 2 mile drive. Some listings have 2-10 properties ranging from single rooms with a shared bath to completely furnished luxury homes. Check their web site for details. The hotel industry is now customizing rates based on views and availability. You can sometimes get discounts if you contact them directly and ask "What specials do you have." Thus the rates displayed here are "tentative." Rates may be reduced for week long stays. It is usual to add tax and out cleaning fees.

Even for those who choose a location within walking distance, renting a car is strongly advised when coming to Kauai. The monastery does not provide transportation and taxis are *very* expensive. If you need to go to shopping or sight-seeing, it is good to have a vehicle. Most travel packages, and a few of the lodgings listed here, offer discounted car rentals. Google "Kauai vacation car rental." When you make inquiries, ask "Do you provide car rental?" This way it is all taken care of for you when you arrive. They will simply hand you the keys and away you go.

United and American Airlines now offer direct flights to Kauai from both San Francisco and Los Angeles, which eliminates the necessity of transiting through the Honolulu Airport for a second, inter-island flight. Air-Car-Hotel packages can be booked directly on their websites. Other daily non-stop flights are: US Airways from Phoenix, Alaska Airlines from Seattle and Delta Air Lines from Los Angeles. Facilities: This is the closest hotel to the monastery. (10 min away) "Where the Wailua River meets the sea." A nice place. Has cottage suites also. See their web site rates. Note that the cottages are two big rooms that could sleep 4 (assuming that it's two couples or mom and dad with two kids) with "kitchenette" and lanai. It's one bedroom and a living room (with fold out bed in couch). Four of the cottages are duplexes that have an interconnecting door.
